I would much prefer the background trees to be blurred, and the kids in focus. Post processing will turn these into a good photos, though. I do love photographing kids in action.
One good thing about these pics is that I didn't crop them, and I like the framing. (Well, I should crop out the broken slide, but overall it's not too bad.) Another good thing about today is that I practiced group portraits... something I'm obviously going to need for the wedding. I utilized the burst mode, but still didn't get a completely perfect shot with everybody's eyes in view. Ten kids and six adults are not easy. Hopefully I can get some more group shot practice in before the wedding. (August.) Do I have any volunteers?
The only way to get the background blurry is to use a fast lens, something like a 2.0 or 2.8 lens wide open. 30D is a cropped camera so that works against you as well.
